FRC EX4 is a flame retardant, intumescent powder that imparts flame retardancy to water-based latex coatings, solvent based resin coatings, caulks, mastics, and sealants. The products can also be added to various plastics and polyurethane foams as a flame retardant system.
White flowable powder
pH: 8.8 (10% slurry)
average particle size: 3-5% on 325 mesh screen
Intumescent coatings are prepared from FRC EX4 by adding the powder to water using a high-shear mixer followed by addition of the latex to the slurry. The amount of FRC EX4 added to the latex/water coating will vary between 35 and 50 per cent depending on the latex used, the coating properties needed, and the flame spread required.
NOTE: While FRC EX4 is an excellent flame retardant for many different systems, each system must be evaluated to determine compatibility and flame spread rating.
The product is available in fiber drums, 300 pounds per drum.
Drums should be stored in a dry warehouse. Temperatures should not exceed 100° F for a prolonged period of time.
Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practices. These include avoiding unnecessary exposure, and removal of the material from eyes, skin, and clothing. Proper dust control measures must be taken when handling the material.
