PyroCoat EX-5 Technical Data Sheet

PyroCoat EX5 is a water dispersed, latex polymer designed to impart water resistance to cellulosic substrate while not contributing to surface flammability. PyroCoat EX5 is an excellent top coat sealer for application over wood, fiber, fabric, or paperboard surfaces that have been treated with water soluble flame retardant saturants such as FRC-EX2, FRC-EX11, or FRC-EX14 or as sealer over the intumescent coatings: PyroCide II™, PyroCide CF™, or PyroCide CLR.

1. White liquid. Very slight odor.
2. Dries to a clear and odorless film.

Applications and Features

PyroCoat EX5 may be applied by spray, dip, brush, or roller.

PyroCoat EX5 is an excellent water resistant sealer for application to wood, fabric, paper, or paperboard that has been pretreated with water leachable, flame retardant saturants or to use as a sealer over intumescent coatings. The product is plasticizer-free, forms a film at room temperature, and dries easily. In addition the product has good abrasion resistance and adheres well to a variety of different surfaces.

NOTE: While PyroCoat EX5 functions extremely well on many materials, it does not provide flame retardancy by itself and must be applied over flame retardant, pre-treated substrate. The buyer accepts liability for determining whether the product is suitable for the buyer's intended use.

Packaging

The product is available in 5-gallon pails or 55-gallon drums.
It should not be repackaged or diluted without consulting PyroTech.

Storage

PyroCoat EX5 cannot be frozen and should be stored at temperatures above 40° F and below 100° F.

Handling and Use

Wear rubber gloves and safety goggles to avoid potential skin or eye irritation when applying the product. Use a protective mask when spray applying. PyroCoat EX5 may cause skin irritation in certain individuals.

Avoid stirring of the product, and when applying, keep product handling to a minimum to prevent foaming. Clean all equipment immediately following use with warm water and mild detergent. Once dry PyroCoat EX5 is impervious to water, most solvents, acids, and alkalis.

Safety and First Aid

PyroCoat EX5 contains no solvents. The product is corrosive and proper care should be taken in handling. The following procedures should be followed.

1. Use proper breathing apparatus to protect from misting when spray applying.
2. Use rubber gloves and eye protection when handling the product.
3. Flush eyes with water for at least 15 minutes if product contacts them. If irritation continues, seek medical attention.
4. Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water. If skin irritation occurs, seek medical attention.
5. Induce vomiting and seek medical attention if product is swallowed.
